Who Am I and What’s This All About

There are a lot of definitions of a Bon Vivant but the one that best describes my view is:

“A bon vivant is a person devoted to refined, sensuous enjoyment.”

Now I take a few liberties with the word “refined”, after all it’s my freaking blog. My “refined” taste can appreciate the nuances of a piece of cheese that spent the last 5 years in a cave in Holland, but can equally appreciate a 2 minute 30 second, three chord punk song from the East Village.

The things I am passionate about all share some of the same qualities: they originate all over the world, they are soulful and produced by people who are artisans. They can be beautiful, ugly, serene and shocking.

It’s all about passion, context and open-mindedness.

The life of a Bon Vivant is a journey. It is a quest for objects and experiences that we can truly appreciate and through that appreciation garner inspiration, satisfaction and joy.

I will share with you experiences that I have had that you might find interesting as well as things I would love to experience in my lifetime. I also want to share my dreams for things that I may never have, or do, except in those moments when my mind and spirit take me there. I hope that whatever the case you find some nourishment for your passions, or better yet, find new things to be passionate about.

Thank you for visiting. I look forward to your comments and suggestions.

  1. This is great David. You have a wonderful talent for this kind of writing! Certainly some excellent descriptive blogs about your food, drink and travel experiences … three things I’m pretty fond of myself! I look forward to some more interesting reading … meanwhile ‘Waiter! A Negroni please’.
